I'm locked out of my laptop for ten minutes because I typed my own password wrong four times in a row which means I can't run sudo systemctl restart elasticsearch

As soon as I'm in I'm going to turn off the delay on incorrect attempts because the biggest threat in my threat model is me

I'm far more likely to accidentally wipe out everything because of something I did in the terminal than I am to have my whole laptop stolen

I wonder if I'm less likely to have my laptop stolen because it looks like I run linux
Personally if I were a laptop thief for resale reasons, I'd pick a laptop that isn't covered in stickers for easier resale, and if I were one for personal data stealing reasons, I'd pick a laptop that doesn't look like it's owned by an Linux Person Who Knows Their Shit (I do not)

Guess who locked themselves out again 🙃

@ionchy as someone who has gone through both, I recommend offsite backups

@wilbowma hmm. I guess in the unlikely event my entire house catches fire I lose both my laptop and my server backups

@ionchy it’s how I burgle. Grab all the things with wires or screens

@haskal oh yeah. bye bye whatever was still running I'm sure it wasn't important
