Complaining about complaining about mastodon

It's been two days and I'm already so fed up of all the people complaining about mastodon like "it will never work out because of xyz design/account creation doesn't work like Twitter/people don't understand federation. Like it's *already working*, if you don't think it works for replacing how you used Twitter, that's fine, but mastodon doesn't need to be *that*.

I guess I'm just tired of people always thinking that new things need to perfectly fit with how they used old things, especially when it's complaining that people are using a thing they don't understand and don't have to use

@justinfrank

I think it's also this awful twitter "pundit brain" thing where people are always trying to make some commentary about current events like "mastodon is really fumbling this opportunity". I unfollow everyone that (re)tweets like that

Complaining about complaining about mastodon

@justinfrank I guess, but like... Twitter occupied a very specific niche in social media, and a lot of people are currently coming here because other people are telling them Mastodon is a replacement for Twitter. so I think it's reasonable that these people — who were told to come to Mastodon from Twitter by current Mastodon users — have a good reason to have these complaints.

plus, I imagine it'll be a short-lived thing. either early leaving-Twitter-for-Mastodon people will adapt, or they'll abandon it, and only the success stories will be left, who will provide better methods for the later leaving-Twitter-for-Mastodon people.

re: Complaining about complaining about mastodon

@pdarragh yeah, there are definitely issues and rough edges with Mastodon, and I have no problem with people pointing it out! And I don't have a problem with people being disappointed that it's not the same as Twitter, cause I agree, there was something unique about it being such a universal site.

I've just read one too many complaints that like @maxsnew pointed out are almost punditizing by like commenting on ways that mastodon is "failing to live up to the moment". Especially when those complaints are either just personal dislikes about the differences or about core design decisions

re: Complaining about complaining about mastodon

@pdarragh lmao I'm already speaking like Twitter is already dead

re: Complaining about complaining about mastodon

@justinfrank @maxsnew yeah I gotcha, that's definitely frustrating. I think a lot of people were hoping for a drop-in replacement for Twitter, which, like... of course that's not going to exist haha. hopefully the complaints will be fairly short-lived, though!
